6 Simple Ways to Build Your Confidence

By Ben Richardson

Confidence is vital in business. Henry Ford said it best, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t - you’re right.” This article explains 6 simple tips to boost your confidence and help you achieve your goals.

1. Cut Out Negative Self-Talk

Rather than dwelling on the things that you didn’t get right, focus on solutions to the problem and avoid negative self-talk which will do nothing to solve the problem and will only drain your confidence and energy. A simple way to do this is to think of the advice you would give to a good friend in a similar situation.

2. Fake It Until You Make It

Smile more often. Improve your posture. Dress well.

3. Practice Being Uncomfortable

The more you put yourself into unfamiliar and difficult situations, the better you will get at handling and overcoming them.

4. Stop Comparing

Next time you find yourself comparing yourself to someone else, catch yourself and remind yourself that you don’t play this is a game anymore because it’s a game that you can’t win. Instead take the time to think about all of the things that you are doing to live as full and joyful a life as you possibly can.

5. Avoid procrastination. Take a small step.

Take a small step towards a small goal today. This focuses your mind on the positives of what you want and why you want it and away from the negative (risks and possible problems), and it breaks the cycle. It shows that you can get past your worries and take action and will give you a boost.

6. Avoid Perfectionism & Celebrate Your Wins

Take time to celebrate your successes, big and small. Reminding yourself of the progress that you have made and the problems that you’ve overcome is fun and will naturally give you a boost. Many people rush from project to project without ever pausing to enjoy their success.
